Hail and Welcome, Sabbat Box Members and Friends!
We have arrived at the point of the year where the longest day is past us, and the slow waning of the day begins to give way to the longer nights. But summer is still very much in full swing and power and growth from the Sun is still in full effect. As we leave the summer solstice behind, we move toward the next stop on the Wheel of the Year—that halfway point between the solstice and the autumnal equinox known by many on the Path as Lammas or Lughnasadh. This festival historically is about abundance and the first harvest of crops, but in modern times we take this time to look spiritually at the return on the work put in at the beginning of the year and the harvest we hope to gain from it!
• BOX SYNOPSIS •
All of the items that we curated for you inside this box correspond with -or- may help assist you with the following forms of magick:
- Hearth magick
- Protection work
- Household spellwork
- Prosperity magick
- discovering new ways to enchant the home
While the harvest fields are an important focus in celebration of Lammas and Lughnasadh, there is also where the harvest ends up: the home and hearth. No matter where our lives take us, we all want a place to call home where we can refuel, recharge, and revitalize ourselves when our work or life stresses take from us. While hearth is generally referring to a fireplace or kitchen space, the term itself brings up images of warmth, security, and peace. It’s no coincidence the term hearth is close to heart, because what makes any structure where we reside a home is the heart and soul that we bring to it. It is where we gather with family and friends to share in our successes, lament our failures, and strengthen our connections with our fellow loved ones.
It is this idea—the hearth or soul of where we live—that we considered when curating items for this year’s Lammas Sabbat Box. We wanted to provide a collection of items and information on how we can better walk our paths when it comes to enchanting our homes and hearth!
• THE HOUSE WITCH BOOK •
ITEM 1: HOUSE WITCH BOOK.................$16.99
• WHAT: Hearth Witchery Book
• WHO MAKES IT?: Sourced via Simon and Schuster

• WHY WOULD I WANT IT?: A fabulous book written on the topic of hearth witchery and how to enchant the home.
BREAKDOWN
What makes a place a home? Is it the feeling of safety and security from the outside world or is there more to it? For many magickal practitioners, the home is the epicenter of their spiritual workings and the "home base” of their magickal path, so we wanted to include a more in-depth collection of information and lore surrounding the home and hearth. That’s when we found this great addition for your magickal library! Author Arin Murphy-Hiscock wrote and gathered extensive information for all things witchy in the home with this beautifully written guide on hearth and home witchcraft. Within its pages you’ll find rituals, spells, recipes and applications that you can add to your own practice and help to keep your home magically tuned, safe, and prosperous. Whether you want to know how to build different hearth fires for specific rites and occasions, to making corn dollies and other home arts and crafts, learn about herbal, color, and food ingredient correspondences, or gain a deeper understanding of the cauldron and its connection between magick and cooking, this book is a great addition to any library. At over 250 pages, this small (but packed!) book is a excellent compendium of things witchy for the home and hearth.

Since this Sabbat Box is all about the home and hearth, we thought to add a lasting addition to your altar or sacred space with this beautiful plaque. The design includes five besoms—common tools in the home to both practically and spiritually “sweep out” bad things. These besoms are arranged in a pentagram or star-shape, which are commonly used to represent the five interconnected elements of water, fire, air, earth, and spirit, but also can represent the complete person and the five aspects of nature and our place in it. This decorative display is an all-in-one way to evoke protection and security, banish negativity or evil, and signify that your home is protected by hearth and home witchcraft! Another use for the pentagram can be the placeholder for deity or higher power if the practitioner does not name or signify a specific god or goddess in their practice. This beautiful plaque is made from cold-cast resin and is hand painted. This plaque will make for a great addition to your home or altar decor. Prop this unique and charming piece up on your altar or hang it on a nearby wall with its built-in hanger. How will you incorporate your besom pentagram into your home?.

Boxes ship: 7/19 ~ We have arrived at the point of the year where the longest day is past us, and the slow waning of the day begins to give way to the longer nights. This festival historically is about abundance and the first harvest of crops, but in modern times we take this time to look spiritually at the return on the work put in at the beginning of the year and the harvest we hope to gain from it.
Lammas, or “Loaf-Mass” is a celebration of the reaping of crops and the first summer harvest. While we may not all be farmers or work literal fields, we all have our own work and sowing our intentions and patiently waiting for growth and a return on our efforts regardless of the time of year. So on the first day of August, we take the time to acknowledge our actions and choices and celebrate those that have brought us prosperity or security as well as examine those actions and choices that have not.
The other name for this sabbat, Lughnasadh (pronounced LOO-NA-SAH), has a more specific purpose, as it is believed that the first festival was held by the god Lugh as a funeral feast for his deceased mother Tailtiu and an athletic competition. This time also became a time of sacrifice as well, as it was important to offer the first crop cuttings to the gods in gratitude for the harvest itself. Here in parts of North America at this time there are literal “first fruits” such as the beginning of the blueberry harvest season.
While the harvest fields are an important location in celebration of this sabbat, there is also where the harvest ends up: the home and hearth.
We wanted to provide a collection of things and information on how we can better walk our paths when it comes to our homes and hearth, and we hope that you will enjoy what we have put together. This year, as the harvest begins, make sure you remember what all that planting and harvesting is for: to make your own little piece of the world the most prosperous and happiest it can be, to make your residence the very example of hearth, home, and soul.

• BOX SYNOPSIS •
All of the items that we curated for you inside this box correspond with -or- may help assist you with the following forms of magick:
- Help to aid with meditation
- Purification
- Spiritual cleansing and healing
- Offerings and divination
- Helps one to incorporate different tools that come directly from the earth into your practice
For this year’s Lammas Sabbat Box, we wanted to highlight the reliance on the earth by focusing on the original, human-spirit connection method: shamanism. While the most familiar picture of shamanism for many of us refers to the indigenous peoples of North America, shamans have extisted under different titles and names in every part of the globe from the beginning of human history. These early practitioners were the medicine people, the advisors, the knowing members of their group or tribe who were revered and honored highly in those cultures, Shamanism generally refers to practicing higher states of consciousness (sometimes through mind-altering plants and substances called entheogens) as a means of connecting to the Otherworld or Divine. Shamans would enter altered states of consciousness, reaching a state referred to as ecstasy, which in this state would divine messages and help provide guidancefor their people. Dancing, singing, drumming, storytelling, and ritual reenactments of important events were just some of what ancient (and modern) shamans throughout the world have done in their practice. Shamans were also the first spiritual practitioners who incorportated ritual tools and objects from the earth into their practices.
We at Sabbat Box--who are committed to introducing and providing tools to modern-day practitioners--seek to honor these ancient practitioners with this year’s Lammas Sabbat box theme, Shamanic Connection. We have curated a collection of items that we hope will give deference to shamanic practice and how it has informed our own modern spell craft and ritual practice. At this time of year, with our focus on the gifts of the earthand our place in it, we hope that this year’s Lammas Sabbat Box might bring you a little closer to the earliest roots of Pagan practice and the Earth on which we live.
Much like the gifts of sustenance the earth provides us during harvest season, the earth alone can lend us all that we need to allow us to further strengthen our bond with it, to further nourish our spirit, and bring us closer the divine.

This is a labor of love and we enjoy serving the community!
We believe in what it is we are doing and we sincerely hope that each and every one of you can see that the purest of intent and utmost care goes into curating each Sabbat Box.

Lammas 2018 Sabbat Box Theme Release • Shamanic Connection 1
• 2018 LAMMAS - LUGHNASADH SABBAT BOX THEME • SHAMANIC CONNECTION •
“Shamanism has been defined as the first religion. It existed prior to the earliest civilizations, before our ancestors took the first steps down the long journey to the present. Prior to this time, the shamans were the medicine people, the power wielders, male and female. They wrought magick and spoke to the spirits of nature” — Scott Cunningham, Chapter 1: Wicca and Shamanism, from the book Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.
Rolling storms and blazing, humid days. The sweat dripping from your temple and the distorted waves of heat rising from the scorched pavement. In the spring, the seeds were planted. Through the summer, we toiled over the crops. As the fields of corn and wheat glisten in the searing August sun, their stalks ripe with grain, they await their final goal: The first harvest of August Eve.
Also known as Lughnasadh or Lammas, this holiday is ripe with history. Lughnasadh is a Gaelic festival and feast said to have been started by the god Lugh. A celebration of the funeral of his mother Tailtiu who died clearing the Irish fields for crops, athletic games were competed in her honor. The festival would also include trial marriages of a year and a day, and massive dinners of the first harvest’s grains and berries would be enjoyed by all. Also associated with August Eve is the English and Scottish holiday of Lammas. Known as the Gule of August in medieval times, Lammas Day was a festival marking the annual wheat and corn harvest. Loaves were blessed and broken into four parts to protect harvested grain in barns while fresh stalks of wheat were gifted to landlords and friends.
Contemporary August Eve celebrations rely heavily on wheat and corn, crops pinnacle to modern civilization. Loaves of bread grace our holiday feasts while corn dolls are made from the husks of the first harvest. As a harvest holiday, we reap what we sow: Goals set in the beginning of the year are coming to realization. We take inventory of our lives and find gratitude in the path we’ve traveled, paved by our ancestors before us. In fact, the ancestral land, the earth, is a quintessential part of Lammas. Without it, we would have no agriculture, no crops and no harvest. Life as we know it would not exist. We owe everything to the earth and those who came before us.
For this year’s Lammas Sabbat Box, we wanted to highlight this reliance on the earth by focusing on the original human-spirit connection method: shamanism. While the most familiar picture of shamanism for many refers to the indigenous peoples of North America, shamans have existed under different titles and names in every part of the globe from the beginning of human history. These early practitioners were the medicine people, the advisors, the knowing members of their group or tribe who were revered and honored highly in those cultures. Shamanism at the core of its meaning generally refers to practicing higher states of consciousness as a means of connecting to the Otherworld or Divine. Shamans would enter altered states of consciousness through many trance inducing methods, reaching a state referred to as ecstasy, which would in turn help to divine messages for the shaman which further helped to provide guidance for their people. Dancing, singing, drumming, storytelling, and ritual reenactments of important events were just some of what ancient (and modern) shamans throughout the world have done in their practice, both in celebration or reverence of the earth and divine, and to also promote higher states of consciousness.
Shamans were also the first spiritual practitioners who incorporated ritual tools and objects from the earth into their practice, the drum for example (made of animal hide and wood) being one of the original, or herbs, which were dried and then burnt as offering being another. We at Sabbat Box are committed to introducing and providing inspiration to modern-day practitioners while revering and seeking to honor the traditions of those who came before us with this year’s Lammas Sabbat Box theme: Shamanic Connection.
The inspiration behind this year’s Lammas box theme was to curate a box of products that are physically “of or from the earth.” In essence, gifts provided to us that we could use and implement into our own practices…the same way a “Shaman” or any of the original “earth based spiritual practitioners” would have. We did this in a symbolic effort to tie in the connection between the “gifts” of the harvest, and to also tie in the connection of our general ancestral roots as well.
Much like the gifts of sustenance the earth provides us during harvest season, the earth alone can lend us all that we need to allow us to further strengthen our bond with it, to further nourish our spirit, and bring us closer the divine.
*NOTE: The items that are found within this year's Lammas box are not intended to teach anyone how to be a "shaman," nor are they intended to teach any specific spiritual practice that coincides with Indigenous tribes or cultures. We wish to provide items that are inspired by the original spiritual practitioners who would use these gifts of the earth and to incorporate these gifts into your own spiritual practices. At this time of year, with our focus on the gifts of the earth and our place in it, we hope that this year’s Lammas Sabbat Box might bring you a little closer to the earliest roots of spiritual practice and the Earth on which we live.

Hail and Welcome, Sabbat Box Members and Friends!
It’s hard to believe that we are full into the swing of summer, and that the first harvest is right around the corner! We at Sabbat Box have worked hard to curate a collection of items for this year’s Lammas/Lughnasadh box by focusing on a particular type of witchcraft: the magick created in the kitchen. Kitchen witchery is truly one of the oldest forms of magic ~ not only was cooking and preparing food vital for the survival for our ancestors, but oftentimes (before there was a pharmacy) health remedies and other homemade cures and fixes started at the home hearth, making the kitchen the symbol of life, family, abundance, magick and more!
We hope that you enjoy these items that we’ve hand-picked for the celebration of Lammas. We hope they give you a deeper understanding of the season and help you to connect with the power and usefulness of kitchen magick.

• BOX SYNOPSIS •
All of the items that we curated for you inside this box correspond with -or- may help assist you with the following forms of magick:
- Lammas Rituals
- Kitchen Witchery
- Kitchen/Cooking Lore
- Creating/Decorating a Magickal Kitchen ~ Decorating a Kitchen Altar
As the Wheel of the Year makes its turn, we leave behind the longest days of Litha and find ourselves looking at the coming of Lughnasadh or Lammas. It is the time of year when the first crops are ready to be harvested and the bountiful results of hard work sown start to come to fruition.
Some people may not literally consider cooking in general to be an actual “ritual” or “spell,” but when it comes to preparing meals, the truth is, cooking and baking are some of the most fundamental rituals of people as a whole, not just Pagans. The work put into the kitchen, like the seeds sown in the field, can reap a harvest of sustenance, family bonding, celebration, and joy. What is a spell, anyway, but the carrying out of a recipe? In the deliberate intention that we exercise over our stoves, we are linked to ancient practitioners who worked over their own cauldrons, preparing not only the basic human requirement of sustenance, but also offering a sacrifice of love and toil to satisfy and show appreciation to their loved ones. There has been a long-held belief that when you are feeding someone something you prepared or cooked, you are sharing with them a piece of yourself, your will and intent, making the act of cooking a special form of magick, unique to itself.
Inside your Lammas Box, you will find an array of items specifically curated to help create a magickal atmosphere within the kitchen, as well as items meant to be used in combination with your Lammas celebrations to help draw forth and manifest the blessings of the earth that are symbolic of the harvest season.

With almost a year in the making to be included inside our Lammas Sabbat Box, this magickal mini corn dolly statue by Sacred Source is a symbol of abundance and prosperity, and is perfect for a Lammas, Harvest, or kitchen altar.
There are many variations of the history of the corn dolly, and the significance it has held. Ancient cultures believed that the “spirit” of the land would be homeless after the crops were harvested and barren, so a corn dolly would have been crafted with the first husks of grain of the harvest season, for the land spirits to inhabit over the long dark winter. It would have been honored and cherished until the followign spring, as it represented the abundance of the previous year’s crops, and the promise of the return of spring. Once spring came, the corn dolly would have been planted into the fields for the nature spirits to re-inhabit, to provide a hopeful return of a prosperous growing season. This makes the corn dolly an old and powerful form of sympathetic magick.
Check out our blog article, The Corn Dolly - The Spirit Of The Grain for a more extensive and detailed history of the corn dolly, where it stems from, and how it was used in the past and present.

• KITCHEN WITCHERY •
“Food is magic…” -- Scott Cunningham, Wicca in the Kitchen
As the Wheel of the Year makes its turn, we leave behind the longest days of Litha and find ourselves looking at the coming of Lughnasadh, or Lammas. It is the time of year when the first crops of the harvest are ready to be harvested and the bountiful results of hard work sown literally come to fruition.
Lammas, also called Lughnasadh--celebrated usually on August 1st in the Northern Hemisphere (and February 1st in the Southern)--is the first of the three harvest festivals of the year, followed by Mabon and Samhain. It is one of the four cross-quarter Sabbats, standing between the fullness of summer solstice and the coming autumnal equinox. Historically the festival of Lammas is marked in the British growing season by of the beginning of the wheat harvest; the day itself stands a celebration for the ready crops that would help ancient people survive the cold, dark winter. In the Celtic tradition, this was also the time to honor and revere Lugh, the Celtic Sun King and God of Light. It is also the first mindful reflection that the light has already begun to wane and shorter days lie ahead. One of the most common traditions around Lammas is the baking of bread, which honors the gods with their fruits and feeds loved ones.
Since Lammas is all about the grains and first fruits of harvest, we are reminded of the most used form of spell craft: cooking and preparation of food. While many people don’t consider, for example, making dinner a spell, but the truth is cooking and baking are some of the fundamental daily rituals of Pagans. The work put into the kitchen, like the seeds sown in the field, can reap a harvest of sustenance, family bonding, celebration, and joy. What is a spell, anyway, but the carrying out of a recipe? In the deliberate intention we exercise over our stove, we are linked to ancient practitioners who worked over their own cauldrons, preparing not only the basic human requirement of sustenance, but also offering a sacrifice of love and toil to satisfy and appreciate their loved ones. There has been a long-held belief that feeding someone what you prepare instills your intent and will into them.
It brings to mind a story my grandmother told me about when she first met my grandfather. Being the young German girl who was smitten with the young American soldier, she knew the way to get his attention: she would bake a apfeltorte—or “apple cake”—for him. He loved it, and, in turn, eventually fell in love with her. The spell had been cast!
She performed all the components of what we as Pagans would identify as spell work: she had in mind her intent (she wanted my grandfather to notice her) powered by her will (she worked hard to make the best apple cake she’d ever made), which led to her will and intent manifested (her cake made my grandfather realize how much my grandmother cared for him, which led to love and marriage). All the elements of magickal working in its most basic, mundane terms.
This Sabbat Box we wanted to offer some items that will help the work we do as Pagans in the kitchen. From the earliest times, our kitchen or hearth has often been the center of what we consider “home.” We want to provide some things that can help you connect to that part of your magickal practice and maybe even bring love and togetherness to your hearth. In the modern age we may have mostly replaced cauldrons with Crock Pots, and wands with spoons, but whether you may simmer some arcane herbs on the stove for a protection spell, or make chocolate chip cookies for your coworkers to celebrate a birthday, the work we do in our kitchens can bring love and peace and light to our lives. And whatever form that may take. We can create smiles and laughter and joy from what we prepare in our kitchens...and if that isn’t magic, what is?
