Hail and Welcome, Sabbat Box Members and Friends!
As the wheel of the year turns to its darkest point--the winter solstice--our Pagan ancestors would anticipate a moment of light in the midst of that darkness, which came in the observance and celebration of Yule. Like them, we can take this time to reflect on the cyclical nature of life and death, beginning and end.
This Yule’s Sabbat Box is filled with items that celebrate that time to pause and reflect, as well as things that can provide a little light in the midst of dark winter. We have included items that can be utilized while we examine the past and look towards the future. Our midwinter musings can help foster a time to focus our power and intent toward what we want out of life and which path to take next.

From the particularly harsh time of the year (winter), sprung lore and archetypal stories explaining the season, such as that of the Holly King and the Oak King. The death and rebirth of the “Lord” and the diminishment as Oak King and his temporary reign as Holly King until spring perfectly represents the cycles and transitions of the season from dark to light. This is one of many stories to symbolize that of which dies during this time of year and that which does not.
Outside activity is often limited for many of us at this time of the year and it can sometimes be difficult to connect with our environment as the cold and snow limit our natural actions. But this limitation also can be a positive: while we hunker down in our warm homes and huddle near the hearth, we have time to reflect on what is to come, as well as what we want to achieve and accomplish for the year ahead. Even our secular calendars show the turn of time, and we ruminate on New Year’s resolutions and the successes and failures we’ve experienced over the last twelve months.
We hope you can find comfort in this year’s offerings and take advantage of the time spent keeping warm. We hope you have a warm and joyful winter with your loved ones, but we also hope you may have the time to look inward and connect with your inner will and power, for it is the key to bringing forth the positive and prosperous changes we all desire in the new year.

• WHY WOULD I WANT IT?: This lovely candle is a throwback to an old Yuletide tradtion of prosperity and fortune in the form of bayberry candles.
BREAKDOWN
There is an old tradition surrounding bayberries and the winter season that stems back to the first American settlers. When they first arrived here, everything revolved around survival. During winter, the most important goods were in short supply (including candles). At this point in time, candles were made of tallow (animal fat), which had a terrible smell, didn’t burn well, and could become rancid. in order to have enough food to make it through the winter, most livestock would have been slaughtered for their meat, which also caused tallow shortages. Not long after arriving, colonists discovered that the abundant bayberries they found could be boiled down to a cleaner, better smelling wax, which they made candles from. It takes fifteen pounds of berries to make one pound of wax, which is very labor intensive, making the wax costly. It was a sign of good luck and prosperity if one could afford such a luxury that it became tradition to burn them to bring about such luck. The old saying goes...

This lovely Horned Lord parchment by Azure Green celebrates the Horned Lord with a prayer written by Travis Bowman beneath an intricate design of two horns springing from a pentagram, as illustrated by Eliot Alexander. Also, we here at Sabbat Box wish to be as environmentally friendly that we can be and do our best to source packing supplies and material from companies that have the same beliefs we do, in that we want to make as little of an impact as possible on the environment, while also keeping the content of your boxes safe as they make their journey to you.
BOXES: Your boxes where made from high quality corrugated paper and are 100% recyclable. Try to find another use for your box. They are 9x9x3 on the inside. You could decorate your box to hold some magical supplies or use it again to ship something to someone or save it for another time when you may need it. If you have to get rid of it, please try to recycle it.
BROCHURES: Your brochures are printed on recyclable 16pt paper, which is sourced from sustainable forests.

We take pride in assembling each and every Sabbat Box by hand, no matter the amount of time it takes. We don't just throw your items inside a flat rate priority mail box like some other subscription box companies out there. We want your Sabbat Box to be delivered to you as beautifully as it left us, and it takes a tremendous amount of time to complete this task.
This includes folding the boxes together, individually cutting each sheet of tissue paper by hand, weighing out the crinkle paper for each box, designing the flyers, coupons, stickers and brochures to be printed professionally by commercial printers, individually placing each item within their corresponding bags, individually assembling the boxes, individually packing the tissue paper within each box by hand and also putting together and creating product packing. This timeframe doesn't even include the efforts made to manage the Sabbat Box website, the back end billing system, social media management, customer service inquiries, accounting, marketing, purchasing, networking, and so on. This is a labor of love and we enjoy serving the community!

• THE YULE BOX - MIDWINTER MUSINGS •
As The Wheel of the Year turns to its darkest point -- the winter solstice -- our Pagan ancestors would anticipate a moment of light in the midst of that darkness, which came in the observance and celebration of Yule. It is during this Sabbat that we take time to reflect on the cyclical nature of life and death, beginning and end. This was a difficult time for our ancestors, and Yule marked a time of the year where the light of the sun would slowly reign dominance again over the darkness of winter, and life would soon re-emerge from the darkness once again.
From this particularly harsh time of the year sprung lore and archetypical stories explaining the season, such as that of the Holly King and the Oak King. "The death and rebirth of the "Lord" and the diminishment of the Oak King and his temporary reign as the Holly King until spring" perfectly represents the cycles and transitions of the season from dark to light, and is just one of many stories that.
During Yule, our ancestors would gather together as a community to celebrate the support given to one another in this time of lack, to remind themselves that the dark isn’t forever, and that the lighter days will soon return.

Hail and Welcome, Sabbat Box Members and Friends!
We have come to the favorite Sabbat of many of our members--Samhain! It is time to don the robes, tread into the dark, and hold ritual with friends and loved ones, both present and passed. Many celebrate "The Witches' New Year" with ancestor altars, dumb suppers, and other rituals that both honor those in our past as well as look toward our future.
With that in mind, we decided this year to curate items for a spiritual practice that goes hand-in-hand with Samhain and its focus on both past and future: divination. The practice of intuiting the future using basic tools and systems has been around probably as long as people have been walking the earth. We strive to both understand those things that have happened, both good and bad, and hopefully learn from them, but also look at the signs and portents with specific methods to help us understand where we are headed and what is to come. As cunning folk, we consider divination to be a gift. Whether it is the lines on one’s hand, the cards in a deck, or the leaves at the bottom of a teacup, people have practiced methods of attuning their intuition to hopefully glean insights of what lies ahead and what is to be done to take the next steps in their lives. We gathered the items for the 2017 Samhain Sabbat Box in hopes to help our members look ahead and by looking inward.

It is during “summer’s end,” on All Hallows’ Eve (the witches’ new year) that we start to embrace the coming darkness. As the veil between the living and the dead fades, we call upon our ancestors and those who came before us, to guide us in the coming months, while honoring them during our rites. We honor the Earth for the final fruit that she bears, and reflect upon the sacrifices we had to make to get to where we are while prepping for the future. Thogh the future for certain may be unknown, and questions may arise, we as cunning folk will use this time to work divination in effort to seek what may be coming our way.
When we as practitioners are presented with questions, or are heading into the uknown, we put our magick to the test, attempting to find the answers we need with divination, and we proceed to manifest the outcomes we desire with our own magickal pursuits. Divination is a practice that helps us to see our way forward as well as see where we have been. We use divinatory tools to intuit our place and get our bearings of where we are on our path; it is a means to understand the conditions that surround us while helping us to look within to make better choices that will ultimately make us most happy.

It is believed that when using a pendulum, you are tapping into and accessing your “higher self,” a.k.a. your subconscious mind, in order to find answers to questions that may lay deep within. Miriam Jasper, also known as calligraphy stone, Arabic stone, or script stone, is as beautiful as it is unique. This stone ironically isn’t a jasper but is actually made up of fossilized seashell, bone, and vegetation from an ancient lake that came under great pressure when the Himalayas were forming.
Known as a diviner’s stone, Miriam Jasper is said to carry protective qualities due to the hematite inside. We take pride in assembling each and every Sabbat Box by hand, no matter the amount of time it takes. We don't just throw your items inside a flat rate priority mail box like some other subscription box companies out there. We want your Sabbat Box to be delivered to you as beautifully as it left us, and it takes a tremendous amount of time to complete this task.
This includes folding the boxes together, individually cutting each sheet of tissue paper by hand, weighing out the crinkle paper for each box, designing the flyers, coupons, stickers and brochures to be printed professionally by commercial printers, individually placing each item within their corresponding bags, individually assembling the boxes, individually packing the tissue paper within each box by hand and also putting together and creating product packing. This timeframe doesn't even include the efforts made to manage the Sabbat Box website, the back end billing system, social media management, customer service inquiries, accounting, marketing, purchasing, networking, and so on. This is a labor of love and we enjoy serving the community!

The Wheel of the Year is turning toward the autumnal equinox, which means that as the days get shorter, folks are looking toward winter and being prepared for the longer nights ahead. This season has traditionally been the time when crops that would be stored for the winter would be brought in, and within the neo-pagan and wiccan communities, this time of year is known as the second harvest sabbat, or Mabon. The gathering of food stores also meant the gathering of people at this time as well: people in their communities would come together to share and trade their bounties with each other, ensuring that no one within their friends and families would be without. A feast of the harvest would offer a time to celebrate and give thanks for the bounty that would sustain them through the fallow times until the coming spring and planting season! Every culture's ancestors had a different way of honoring the earth and celebrating the harvest season, each special in their own way.

While the time of gathering the first fruits of the harvest season has passed (Lammas), the second harvest, was considered to be the grand gathering time of food and the needed staples for storage in order for our ancestors to get through the coming winter. Though prepping to survive winter was one of the main purposes behind the harvest season, many cultures from around the world would take time during this season to come together and celebrate the fruits of their labor, and to feast and share in the abundance of the season with family and friends.
Aside from celebrating our blessings and the abundance from the earth this sabbat; the spirit of Mabon and the autumnal equinox is also associated with balance. With the light of sun and dark of night starting to appear equally again this time of year, one can see why balance came to play such a symbolic role during the harvest season. Balance brings stability within our lives, which also brings with it harmony and security, and itsn’t that what we all ultimately seek in order to live fully and happily?

The witch’s broom, also known as a besom, has long been steeped deep in lore and symbolism, and has played an important role within the craft throughout generations. What once started as a simple domestic utensil used by people to physically clean their homes, over time ended up becoming an important spiritual tool, protective talisman, and a sacred object within the home, and within the craft.
In Wicca, the besom is used ritually when casting circle to purify a space by “spiritually sweeping” away impure energy. This stems from the fact that besoms were originally made with ash handles and birch bristles (ash being a masculine wood representing life, good luck and abundance) and birch (a feminine wood, representing protection and purification) in European folklore.
Your besom is meticulously woven and was made to be very durable so it can be used to physically clean your altar or sacred space if you wish, or it can also be hung over your door to purify those coming into your home. It can also be used ritually to purify space. Each besom comes with a broom/besom info parchment filled with history and lore of brooms, perfect for a book of shadows.
Robert Skinner, (the founder of Blue Moon Broom, Brush and Besom), has been a fiber artist for over 8 years. He specializes in crafting traditional style brooms and besoms, handfasting besoms, ritual brooms and besoms, and very much welcomes custom orders. When it comes to crafting a broom, Robert will craft everything by hand, from start to finish in order to maintain an exceptional level of quality and durability. From cutting, soaking and drying the natural broomcorn, to weaving and tying, everything is done by hand. On custom brooms and besom orders, Robert will even go as far as hand dyeing each piece of broom corn, string or other besom components with natural dyes when custom besom coloring is requested. On brooms that contain natural branch handles, he will kiln dry the wood, then sand and stain them by hand as well. BOXES: Your boxes where made from high quality corrugated paper and are 100% recyclable. Try to find another use for your box. They are 9x9x3 on the inside. If you have to get rid of it, please try to recycle it.
BROCHURES: Your brochures are printed on recyclable 16pt paper, which is sourced from sustainable forests.

We take pride in assembling each and every Sabbat Box by hand, no matter the amount of time it takes. We don't just throw your items inside a flat rate priority mail box like some other subscription box companies out there. We want your Sabbat Box to be delivered to you as beautifully as it left us, and it takes a tremendous amount of time to complete this task.
This includes folding the boxes together, individually cutting each sheet of tissue paper by hand, weighing out the crinkle paper for each box, designing the flyers, coupons, stickers and brochures to be printed professionally by commercial printers, individually placing each item within their corresponding bags, individually assembling the boxes, individually packing the tissue paper within each box by hand and also putting together and creating product packing. This timeframe doesn't even include the efforts made to manage the Sabbat Box website, the back end billing system, social media management, customer service inquiries, accounting, marketing, purchasing, networking, and so on. This is a labor of love and we enjoy serving the community!
We believe in what it is we are doing and we sincerely hope that each and every one of you can see that the purest of intent and utmost care goes into curating each Sabbat Box.

We just wanted to follow up with you to let you know that as of today, Sabbat Box and Eclectic Artisans has gone back to our normal operating schedules. We sincerely thank each of you for all of your thoughts, compassion and prayers prior to the storm. Please see below for further updates...
MABON SABBAT BOX DELAYS:
The 2017 Mabon Sabbat Box ship date has been pushed to Monday September 18. Last week, prior to Hurricane Irma's impact to our area, we were estimating that we would have Mabon Sabbat Boxes shipped out by Friday September 15th. Unfortunately, we are still waiting on the delivery of the Mabon Sabbat Box brochures before we can ship boxes, (which are due in for delivery this evening on 9/15).
Much of Florida and the Southeast is still dealing with residual impacts caused by Hurricane Irma. Things like power outages, flooding and gas shortages are specifically causing delays in shipping and deliveries to the Southeast region of the U.S. amongst the various shipping couriers. We will be receiving your Mabon brochures Friday afternoon on the 15th, and will begin finalizing the packing of boxes tomorrow (Saturday 9/16), to ship them on Monday 9/18.
The majority of you will still receive your boxes on or before Mabon (9/22), which is always our goal at Sabbat Box. We apologize for the extenuating circumstances and thank you in advanced for your patience and understanding during these particularly challenging times.
TEXAS, FLORIDA, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND GEORGIA MEMBERS/CUSTOMERS:
If you are a Sabbat Box member located in any of the above listed states and are currently in a situation where you cannot receive any mail or shipments of your Sabbat Box due to the impact of Hurricane Harvey or Hurricane Irma, please contact us here and let us know. We can make arrangements to hold or delay the shipment of your Sabbat Box
AFTER THE STORM:
Thankfully, here in Pinellas County, we made it through the storm much better than anticipated. Irma's final track pushed her inland sooner then expected, which prevented her from intensifying back into a CAT4 or 5, which spared Tampa Bay from complete and total devastation. Right now, there still are many businesses and homes in the area still without power, but in the grand scheme of things Pinellas County really lucked out.
Those that live in Naples, Miami, the Keys, Jacksonville and parts of South Carolina, Georgia, and The Virgin Islands, did not fare as well. Their impacts were much more severe, and brutal. We ask that you please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers as they begin to rebuild.
